Frequently Asked Questions
How do you charge for your services?
Due to the highly unique and custom nature of our work, we cannot usually give a ‘fixed bid’. We charge for ‘Time & Materials’ for our jobs. Our current labor rates are $55/hr for the owner and $40/hr for each additional employee. Materials are sold to our clients at our cost.
What materials can I expect to pay for?
The typical materials that you will be charged for are paint, stain, varnish, replacement wood if needed, epoxy, caulk, tape, etc.
How long will this take?
We do our best to give our clients our best estimate of the time we think it will take to complete their project. We typically can give a range of time (example: 4-6 weeks) if we have taken on a similar project before. To understand why some projects take the time they do, you must understand that we are usually working to restore something that has been neglected for decades, or even since it was new. And it can require a lot of work to bring it back to its original form and functionality. Moving parts (doors & windows) can require extra care to ensure they work properly. We also make sure that we give your project the proper finish (paint, varnish, etc) to make sure it lasts as long as possible.
Other typical situations that can extend your projects time frame:
Custom fabrication – When wood is rotten or missing, it may not be available commercially and must be custom fabricated
Unexpected surprises – Be conscious of the fact that the original plan will have some unexpected hiccups, it’s almost guaranteed. Rebuilding and restoring woodwork of this age always has its challenges, but in the end it is usually the most beautiful.
This process is part art form, and part engineering science, and neither can be rushed without compromising the end result. We take great pride in our work and in our customer satisfaction, so please try to be flexible with your time expectations. Our first priority is your satisfaction and to provide you with the highest quality service possible.
